Tipical Charlie
Welcome to Tipical Charlie, a repository of all kinds of tips related to computing, from web developer and technologist, Charlie Arehart.
I'll mostly share my own tips that I've found others enjoyed hearing about. I'll welcome tips from others, too.

Got a Treo? Want to stop hitting the touchscreen by mistake during a call?

posted Thursday, 2 August 2007

If you have a Treo 700 (Palm or Windows), there's a quick and easy solution to the challenge some face of hitting the touchscreen by mistake during a call and dropping it doing something else unexpected. You can disable the screen during a call. Here's how.

Now you may, like me, have seen or heard about that feature and thought, "well, I want to be able to still go to my contacts during a call, or dismiss an alert that pops up." Don't worry, you still can. You just need to use the buttons, keyboard, and navigator, not the touchscreen.

The following is from a Treo newsletter I go today:

For Palm OS smartphones:
1. Press Applications and select Prefs.
2. Select Keyguard.
3. Check the On A Call box.
4. Select Done.

For Windows Mobile smartphones:
1. Press Start and select Settings.
2. On the Personal tab, select Keyguard.
3. Set the Disable Touchscreen option.
4. Press OK.

I'll share as well, that an earlier newsletter offered a link to some self-paced learning guides where you may find other tips:

- Go to
http://News.palmnewsletters.com/cgi-bin13/DM/y/emrc0PgcSS0IB20dXK0Gt

- Click "Treo training"
- Click on your Treo smartphone model, and you're ready to begin!
- Self-Paced Learning Guides are available for Treo 755p, 750, 700w, 700wx, 700p, and 680 smartphones.
